The Maria Sklodowska-Curie Saturday School has served the local Polish community in Wimbledon and Putney for over 55 years. Initially teaching the Polish language and culture to children of soldiers who settled in England after World War 2, most of the current students are from subsequent waves of Polish immigrants who have been welcomed by this country over the years. The school has expanded and grown, especially since Poland became a member of the European Union in 2004. There are currently 540 pupils of all age groups, from nursery to A-level.

Students learn the Polish language, history, geography and culture as well as religion. The school has close links with the Polish RC parish of St. John the Evangelist in Putney.

The Maria Sklodowska-Curie school has always maintained a very high standard of teaching and as a consequence has consistently achieved excellent Polish GCSE, AS and A-Level results.

The school is run as a not-for-profit organisation which is funded and managed by the parents. Teaching and ancillary staff work on a voluntary basis with a nominal salary to cover expenses.

The school has had several locations in the Wimbledon-Putney area over the years. Prior to the Ursuline High School it was based for over twenty years at Elliott School in Putney.

The Maria Sklodowska-Curie Saturday School has had a relationship with the Ursuline for many years. Students who attended UHS during the week and the Polish school on Saturdays were closely involved in sending aid shipments to Poland during Martial Law in 1981-1983.

Many girls who, over the years, graduated from UHS are now active and successful members of British society. In April 2012, the Maria Sklodowska-Curie Saturday School completed its move from its previous location to the superior facilities offered by the Ursuline High School, Wimbledon
